The xdg-user-dirs 0.20 release enables the 'Projects' directory by default in Linux home directories, closing an 11-year-old feature request. This new standard location is intended for project-centric applications (software engineering, CAD, 3D printing, video editing) whose files don't fit neatly into Documents, Music, Pictures, or Videos. Users who dislike it can simply delete the folder, and it won't be recreated. The release also migrates the build system from Automake to Meson, updates translations, and replaces a shell script with a C binary to fix an arbitrary code execution vulnerability from unsanitized input.
