A teardown of LG's unreleased rollable smartphone concept reveals the engineering behind its scroll-like expanding display. The device, which never reached consumers, features a polished UI with animated wallpapers that expand with the screen, a debris-blocking brush mechanism, a glass cover protecting the rolled display, and two DC motors driving a rack-and-pinion system with spring-loaded arms for stability. The mechanism is strong enough to push books aside but includes a safety warning if movement is resisted.
