Palo Alto's 2026 incident response report covering 750 cases across 50 countries reveals attackers now exfiltrate data in as little as 72 minutes. The typical attack chain: stolen credentials used to log in, then within 10 minutes the attacker queries internal AI tools to map the environment, moves laterally via overly permissive identity policies by minute 30, stages data across endpoints and cloud by minute 60, and is gone by minute 72. Key stats: 22% of attacks exfiltrate data in under an hour, and 90% of breaches exploit identity weaknesses. AI has made attackers four times faster.
