Hackers: Democracy's last line of cyber defense

A call to action for hackers to build accessible, user-friendly cybersecurity tools that can protect ordinary people, activists, and oppressed communities from surveillance and digital attacks. Drawing on the analogy of Kali Linux as the gold standard for security professionals, the argument is that a 'Kali for the rest of us' — tools that democratize security expertise without requiring deep technical knowledge — is urgently needed. Convenience, historically a force multiplier in computing (compilers, GUIs, the web), must now be applied to security. Hackers, with their systems-thinking mindset, are uniquely positioned to build these tools and expand the constituency of people who can protect themselves online.
