Greece will ban children under 15 from accessing social media starting 1 January 2027. Prime Minister Mitsotakis announced the decision via TikTok, noting enforcement will rely on a state-mandated app installed on all personal devices. The ban applies regardless of parental consent and extends to online gambling, alcohol and tobacco promotion, and explicit content. Around 80% of Greeks support the measure. Greece joins Australia and several European countries moving toward formal child social media restrictions, with Mitsotakis explicitly pushing for the EU to adopt similar policy.
