Researchers discovered GPUHammer, a new RowHammer attack variant that targets NVIDIA GPUs and can severely degrade AI model accuracy from 80% to less than 1% through memory bit flips. The attack affects GPUs like the NVIDIA A6000 with GDDR6 memory, while newer models like H100 and RTX 5090 are protected by on-die ECC. NVIDIA recommends enabling system-level ECC as mitigation, though this introduces up to 10% performance overhead and reduces memory capacity by 6.25%.
