A practical approach to GPL licensing that avoids the limitations of both GPL-3.0-only and GPL-3.0-or-later. By using Section 14 of the AGPL/GPL v3, a project author can designate a named proxy (themselves or a trusted party) who has the authority to publicly accept future GPL versions on behalf of the project. This sidesteps the need for FSF trust or unanimous copyright holder consent when upgrading license versions, while still keeping contributors' copyright intact via DCO.
