Google to invest up to $40B in Anthropic in cash and compute

Google plans to invest up to $40 billion in Anthropic, committing $10 billion immediately at a $350 billion valuation with another $30 billion contingent on performance targets. The deal also expands Google Cloud's infrastructure commitment, providing 5 gigawatts of compute capacity over five years. This follows Anthropic's recent limited release of its Mythos model, a powerful cybersecurity-focused AI, and comes amid a broader industry race to secure massive compute resources. Anthropic has also recently secured a $5 billion investment from Amazon and a data center deal with CoreWeave, while its valuation is reportedly being discussed at $800 billion or more, with an IPO potentially as soon as October.
