Google has released the Gemma 4 model family as open source, featuring a 31B dense and a 26B MoE (4B active parameters) variant that reportedly outperform models 10x their size. The series achieves state-of-the-art open source performance in coding and scientific reasoning, supports multimodal inputs (text, image, audio), and includes smaller variants (E4B, E2B) capable of running locally on laptops or phones — eliminating the need for cloud infrastructure.
