Google has settled its dispute with Epic Games by overhauling its Play Store fee structure. In-app purchase commissions drop from 30% to 20%, with an additional 5% service fee for developers in the EEA, UK, and US. Developers in the new Apps Experience or Google Play Games Level Up programs get even lower rates (20% for existing installs, 15% for new installs). The new fees roll out regionally between June 2026 and September 2027. Google will also introduce an optional program supporting sideloading of third-party app stores. Epic CEO Tim Sweeney confirmed Fortnite will return to Google Play globally as a result, and that the Epic Games Store will continue supporting Android with easier installation coming later in 2026.
