Google agreed to pay $68 million to settle a class-action lawsuit alleging its voice assistant illegally recorded users without consent through "false accepts" - activating and recording conversations even without wake words. The recorded data was allegedly shared with third parties for targeted advertising. Google did not admit wrongdoing. This follows similar settlements, including Apple's $95 million Siri privacy case in 2021 and Google's $1.4 billion Texas data privacy settlement in 2025.
