Google is expanding its Android in-call scam protection feature to the United States, following successful pilots in the UK, Brazil, and India. The feature automatically warns users when they open a financial app while screen sharing during a phone call with an unsaved contact. It includes a 30-second pause to disrupt social engineering tactics used by scammers impersonating banks. The US rollout includes popular fintechs like Cash App and banks such as JPMorganChase, and the protection is compatible with Android 11+ devices.
