Google is extending its Advanced Protection Program to Android 16 as a device-level security setting. Designed for high-risk individuals like journalists and public figures, it bundles Android's strongest security features into a single, easy-to-activate control point. Key highlights include defense-in-depth architecture that prevents disabling individual security features, seamless integration with Google apps like Chrome and Google Messages, and a new industry-first Intrusion Logging feature that backs up device logs in a tamper-resistant, privacy-preserving way for forensic analysis. Additional features including USB protection, insecure network auto-reconnect disabling, and Scam Detection integration are planned for later in 2025.
