Google Cloud launched managed connection pooling for AlloyDB for PostgreSQL, delivering 3x more client connections and up to 5x higher transactional throughput. The feature automates PgBouncer-like functionality, eliminating the need for separate pooling infrastructure. It's particularly beneficial for serverless deployments and high-concurrency workloads, though it doesn't work with AlloyDB Auth Proxy. Developers can enable it via console or API, with two modes available: transaction mode for scalability and session mode for full PostgreSQL compatibility. The managed pooler handles patching and scaling automatically within Google Cloud's network.
