Google is expanding SynthID, its AI watermarking technology, with a new Content Detection API on Google Cloud's Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform. The API, currently in preview with partners like Shutterstock, Snap, and Canva, analyzes JPEG, PNG, and WebP images for AI-generated artifacts using pixel-level ML analysis. It can detect content from both Google and other popular AI models, supporting use cases like feed sorting, insurance fraud prevention, and synthetic media labeling. SynthID adoption has grown to include Nvidia (for Cosmos foundation models), OpenAI (combining SynthID with C2PA metadata for layered provenance), Kakao, and ElevenLabs. Google has also integrated SynthID verification into its Gemini app and plans to extend it to Search and Chrome, while expanding C2PA Content Credentials to Pixel 8, 9, and 10 phones.
