Google is overhauling its Play Store fee structure and opening Android to third-party app stores. The standard 30% developer cut is being replaced with a 20% fee (15% for qualifying developers in new programs), subscriptions drop to 10%, and Google's own billing system will carry a 5% fee in key markets. Developers can now offer alternative billing systems or direct users to external purchase pages. A new 'Registered App Stores' program will allow vetted third-party stores like Epic Games Store to integrate more smoothly into Android. These changes stem partly from Google's November 2025 settlement with Epic Games, alongside an $800 million joint partnership. Rollout is phased by region, with full global availability by September 2027.
