Google has moved up its Q Day readiness deadline to 2029, significantly earlier than previous estimates, warning the entire industry to migrate away from RSA and elliptic curve cryptography to post-quantum cryptography (PQC) algorithms. Google's VP of security engineering and a senior cryptography engineer published an ambitious timeline urging industry-wide adoption of PQC. Separately, Google revealed that Android 17 will support ML-DSA, a NIST-standardized post-quantum digital signing algorithm, integrated into Android's hardware root of trust. This will enable developers to use PQC keys for app signing and software signature verification, with engineers also beginning to migrate remote attestation to PQC.
