GNOME 50, codenamed 'Tokyo', has been released with several notable improvements. Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) and fractional scaling are now enabled by default on compatible hardware. The Document Viewer app gains ink and free text annotation tools for drawing on PDFs and filling non-interactive forms. Parental controls expand with daily screen time limits and bedtime schedules for child accounts. Remote desktop sessions now support GPU hardware acceleration via Vulkan and VA-API, with NVIDIA explicit sync and HiDPI support.
