GitHub is making Codespaces available to Team and Enterprise Cloud plans on GitHub.com. Codespaces provides software teams a faster, more collaborative development environment in the cloud. GitHub’s Engineering Team has moved to Codespaces. Adopting Codespaces has provided us with an opportunity to improve our overall development experience.

TLDR; Github has internally switched to using Codespaces for their development and this has allowed them to shrink the time to setup a working environment down to a mere 10 seconds, while simultaneously allowing them to upgrade the resources allocated to employees machines in bulk.

i see this as a sign that local development will get overtaken soon!
