GitHub Copilot Just Died

GitHub Copilot is overhauling its pricing model starting June 1st, removing the premium request system and replacing it with a token-based credit model. Free models previously included in monthly plans are being eliminated, the annual plan is being discontinued, and model multipliers are increasing 3–9x. The $10/month plan now effectively yields only about 30 Sonnet requests per month. The only remaining free feature is in-editor code completion. The author argues Copilot now offers no meaningful discount over paying Claude or other AI providers directly, and predicts all flat-fee AI subscription plans will eventually converge to raw API pricing.
