GitHub Copilot Is Using Your Code for AI Training

GitHub updated its Copilot data usage policy so that from April 24th, user interactions including inputs, outputs, code snippets, and surrounding context may be used to train AI models by default. Users must actively opt out via GitHub account settings under Copilot privacy settings. The policy creates ambiguity around private repositories: while static private repo content isn't trained on, code context sent through Copilot interactions may be. As an alternative to GitHub, self-hosted Git platforms like Gitea and Forgejo are recommended for users who want full control over their code and data.
