GitHub Copilot in VS Code v1.110 (February 2026) focuses on making AI agents practical for longer, more complex tasks. Key additions include agent lifecycle hooks for automation and policy enforcement, conversation forking from checkpoints, auto-approval toggles via /autoApprove or /yolo, and the ability to queue follow-up messages mid-run. New extensibility features include agent plugins (bundles of skills, tools, hooks, and MCP servers), agentic browser control, and /create-* commands for generating reusable prompts and agents. Context management improvements include shared agent memory across Copilot tools, persistent plans, a built-in Explore subagent for parallelized codebase research, and manual context compaction with /compact. Copilot CLI is now natively integrated into VS Code. Other updates include long-distance next edit suggestions, a redesigned model picker, AI coauthor attribution for commits, and terminal Kitty graphics protocol support.
