GitHub Copilot can generate solutions to common algorithm-based interview questions with minimal input, often completing them before the function signature is even finished. This exposes a deeper flaw: algorithm questions are already poor proxies for real engineering work and are easily gamed through memorization or StackOverflow lookups. The recommended fix is twofold — replace algorithm questions with real-world tasks representative of the actual job (e.g., refactoring a React component, setting up a backend endpoint), and assess candidates' communication and code review skills to evaluate how they reason about generated or existing code.
