You are comparing the models, but not all the features, that copilot has, if copilot has a way to choose the model. then this is a great post, but those are just models. The biggest thing for me is the real time suggestion. I dont want to ask the model for code or write everything all by myself, instead, I want inline, completions, for things I already know and can type, but I’m just lazy. This, way, it allows me to become a better promgrammer, so I’m prompting to finish the line (which is easy most of the time for the model), unlike programmer, he types, everything, which is good, but that’s not my type, because I have a Trigger finger condition. and pressing tab is most reliable.
I only recommend to do this, if you are already a programmer or have trigger finger condition. otherwise, you will never get most out of it.
try supermaven it’s good, and faster than Copilot.

A few issues with this post. As others have said Co-Pilot is more than the models. Second, there doesn’t seem to be any indication as to why one is better than the others - its just a list of LLMs that are more code focused. Lastly, articles like this age poorly because the landscape changes frequently and a model that works for one person may be useless for another. Not everyone can run an LLM locally and the various sizes have different results.
For anyone else stumbling upon this continue.dev is the closest I’ve seen to replicating some Co-Pilot features in VS Code and Jetbrains.

These are not github-copilot alternatives. They are just LLMs which are capable of doing the same work but we can’t just simply integrate them with our IDE and hit tab to accept suggestions like we do for copilot use case.
