An open-source investigative data journalism project quantifying fixable waste in the US healthcare system using primary federal datasets (CMS, OECD, RAND). Three issues published so far identify ~$98.6B/year in potential savings: $0.6B from Medicare OTC drug overspending, $25B from international drug price disparities, and $73B from commercial insurers paying 254% of Medicare rates for hospital procedures. Each issue includes reproducible Python pipelines, DuckDB databases, and full methodology documentation. A fourth issue on pharmacy benefit managers is forthcoming.
