Hi everyone 👋🏾
Saw it fit to introduce myself in my first post.
My name is <a href="https://linktr.ee/o.gregory.o" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow">Gregory Opondi</a> and I am a final year Economics and Statistics double major.
While I come from a non-tech background, I’m fascinated by the world of tech and I’m self-learning how to write Python code to be a Data Scientist (the Stats I learn in class really comes in handy).
My enthusiasm in tech has also lead me to be heavily involved in student tech communities on campus like the Google Developer Student Club and the <a href="https://mvp.microsoft.com/studentambassadors/profile/455124ba-1d86-4859-9c4d-87ade60a53e0?wt.mc_id=studentamb_206118" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow">Microsoft Learn Student Ambassadors</a>, though I stood out like a sore thumb being one of the very few students not doing any Computer Science or IT-related course. I was a Misfit Developer. In order to democratize tech to all students regardless of your major, I started the <a href="https://linktr.ee/uon_codingclub" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow">The UoN Coding Club</a>, which, at it’s core, aims to promote diversity and inclusion in the tech industry.
Other than my passion for data science and tech communities, I am also intrigued by the startup realm. I’m trying to set up my little startup, Move With Songa, on campus.
Outside tech, I also play chess and the guitar.
I’m happy to be part of this community and I’m looking forward to learning, growing and exploring opportunities with all of you.
