Mitchell Hashimoto, creator of the Ghostty terminal emulator and GitHub's 1299th user, has announced plans to migrate Ghostty off GitHub due to chronic reliability and outage issues. After keeping a journal for a month, he found nearly every day had a GitHub outage that blocked his work — including a 2-hour GitHub Actions outage on the day he wrote the post. While personal projects will remain on GitHub, major projects like Ghostty will move to an as-yet-undecided alternative platform. Hashimoto remains open to returning if GitHub's reliability improves.
