Grafana Labs has launched gcx, a new Grafana Cloud CLI tool in public preview that brings observability directly into the terminal and into agentic coding environments like Cursor and Claude Code. The tool bridges the visibility gap between AI coding agents and production systems, letting agents query real metrics, traces, logs, SLOs, and alerts rather than guessing from source code alone. gcx supports instrumentation via OpenTelemetry, alert rule generation, SLO management, synthetic probes, and dashboard-as-code workflows. It is designed with LLM callers in mind: consistent JSON/YAML output, stable exit codes, auto-detection of agent mode, and a machine-readable command catalog. Bundled agent skills can be installed with a single command to accelerate common observability tasks.
