A developer built a puzzle generator for the Cat Crimes board game after the commercial puzzle cards became too difficult for his 5-year-old. The program generates random puzzles, validates them for a unique solution, and applies difficulty constraints (e.g., limiting exact-position clues) to keep them beginner-friendly. A ChatGPT integration mode is also included, where the tool validates AI-generated puzzles in an iterative debugging loop. A PDF of 20 pre-generated puzzles and the open-source code are available for download.
