Gemma 4 Google just made AI free forever

Google released Gemma 4, a family of open-source AI models (Apache 2.0) that run entirely on-device without internet or subscriptions. The lineup includes four sizes: E2B and E4B for phones/edge devices, a 26B mixture-of-experts model for desktops, and a 31B dense flagship. Using LM Studio on Mac and Google's Edge Gallery app on mobile, the author demonstrates local chat, HTML code generation, image-based OCR, and offline email drafting — all without sending data to the cloud. While ChatGPT still leads on complex reasoning, Gemma 4 holds its own for everyday tasks, code, and creative work, with no token limits or usage caps.
