Gemini and Firebase AI Logic enabled Karrot to increase sales with a translation feature built in under 2 weeks

Karrot, a peer-to-peer marketplace app with 43 million users, integrated Firebase AI Logic and Gemini Flash Lite to add real-time translation for non-English users in North America. After testing and rejecting ML Kit Translation (quality issues) and Gemini Nano (download requirements), the team built a proof of concept in under 3 hours and shipped to production in 2 weeks without a dedicated backend. The result: 1 in 3 non-English users shown the translation banner used it, and buyers with translation were 2.4x more likely to initiate a chat with sellers.
