Geely has launched the EX5, a battery-electric SUV starting at $15,300 (109,800 yuan) that comes with massaging seats, a 1,000-watt sound system, and up to 610 km of range. Already sold in 35 countries and the top-exported BEV A-class crossover from China, it undercuts European EVs by thousands even after EU tariffs. The pricing is enabled by Geely's massive manufacturing scale, vertically integrated battery supply chains, and a portfolio spanning Volvo, Polestar, Zeekr, and Lotus. European automakers face a structural cost disadvantage that tariffs alone cannot close, and Geely is also planning US market entry via Volvo's South Carolina factory to sidestep the 100% import tariff.
