A developer built a custom variant of Conway's Game of Life during a 6-hour flight, coded in Ruby and visualized in the terminal. The rules differ from the classic: cells belong to teams, attack enemies, heal allies, and have individual stats (health, attack, healing). Terminal colors give the board an Atari 2600 aesthetic. Two modes are shown: equal stats (leading to stalemates with contested borders) and random stats (producing chaotic, visually interesting patterns).
