Vinted's platform engineering team automated their Vespa search engine maintenance by replacing fragile Bash scripts with Temporal's durable orchestration. As their infrastructure scaled from hundreds to thousands of nodes, manual maintenance became unsustainable. Temporal's fault-tolerant state machine approach enabled zero-impact upgrades, autonomous scheduling, and self-service operations through Slack bots. The solution reduced operational toil by treating workflows as deterministic code with built-in retry logic and state management, allowing the team to focus on higher-value engineering instead of babysitting scripts.
