Found Industries, founded by MIT alumnus Peter Godart, is expanding beyond its aluminum fuel technology to launch Found Metals, a division focused on extracting gallium and other critical metals domestically. With 99% of global gallium supply controlled by China and recent Chinese export restrictions, the company developed an electrochemical extraction process from Bayer liquor as a byproduct of solving its own supply chain vulnerability. Backed by a $5.4M DOE program, Found plans to produce gallium, indium, and germanium by end of 2027, while continuing to scale its aluminum-water catalytic reactor systems for industrial heat and power generation.
