Forge is a unified CLI and Go module that provides a single consistent interface for GitHub, GitLab, Gitea/Forgejo, and Bitbucket. It auto-detects the forge type from the git remote and supports repos, issues, pull requests, releases, CI pipelines, branches, labels, milestones, deploy keys, secrets, and comments with identical syntax across all providers. Authentication supports tokens from flags, environment variables, or config files. A Go module API is also available for programmatic use, enabling code that works against any forge without per-provider conditional logic. The author highlights growing relevance for AI coding agents that currently hardcode GitHub's API.
