It is recommended to turn on wrap tabs for better tab management, disable the preview editor for persistent tabs, uncheck compact folders for better folder visibility, shift the primary sidebar to the right for better usability, and turn off MDN references for a cleaner interface. I not agree with :

<li>Wrap tabs : Why do you need to have a look on all tabs opened here ? It takes a lot of space… If I have a lot of tabs, I can see all opened files in explorer in the “open editors” section</li>
<li>Preview editor : as you said, it depends on the developer’s habits. I prefer keep the preview mode, because you may just want to look at something in a file without having to close it next. And doing a double-click instead of a single one is not time expansive.But that’s my opinion</li>
<li>compact folders : I agree that when you start using VS Code, it may be confusing. But with a little practice you can understand how it works. I keep it, because I don’t have to open each folder one by one, it is time saving</li>

Shift sidebar on the right is a good thing, I also recommand to change activity bar position on the top or the bottom to have more space (but you have to know the keyboard shortcut CTRL+B)

Best advice I ever received from anything: Make your IDE work for you. If the defaults work for you, great. Use them. Otherwise, consider what you’re using all the time or wish you had quick to hand and adjust your IDE accordingly.
I hate the click-bait of “you should”. It should be more like “Five VS Code Defaults I turned off to improve my productivity”, then explain why those things actually improved your productivity. Not, “because I thought it looked”.

For me, none of these recommendations make sense. They may suit other developers’ needs, tastes and habits but do not suit mine.
