Cloud architecture decisions directly impact costs, often unexpectedly. Multi-region deployments, premium storage tiers, unfiltered logging, and cross-region data replication can dramatically increase cloud bills. Engineers can achieve 30-50% cost reductions through lifecycle management policies, storage tier optimization, log sampling and filtering, autoscaling with business metrics instead of CPU alone, and reducing unnecessary cross-region replications.
