Moonbase 3 was a 1973 BBC/Twentieth Century Fox co-production that aimed for scientific realism in depicting a European lunar base set in 2003. Advised by science journalist James Burke, the show accurately portrayed NASA-style operations and even predicted US-Russia space cooperation and lunar ice. However, its hyper-realistic focus on budget politics and funding battles made it dramatically dull compared to hits like Star Trek. The six-episode series was nearly lost when master tapes were wiped, surviving only after a US copy surfaced in 1993. Despite its flaws — inconsistent gravity depiction, character carelessness — the final episode is considered a standout worth watching. The full series is available on YouTube and Archive.org.
