The US Department of Justice, in coordination with German and Canadian authorities, disrupted four major IoT botnets — Aisuru, KimWolf, JackSkid, and Mossad — responsible for some of the largest DDoS attacks ever recorded, including traffic bursts exceeding 31.4 Tbps. Together, the botnets compromised over three million devices worldwide, including routers, IP cameras, and DVRs. Operators monetized the networks through DDoS-for-hire services and extortion. The operation seized command-and-control infrastructure, but millions of insecure, unpatched devices remain online, leaving the underlying vulnerability intact.
