Fedora 44 will replace the kernel's frame-buffer console (FBCON) with KMSCON, a user-space terminal emulator based on kernel mode setting. KMSCON offers better keyboard support, improved security, and doesn't require the fbdev emulation layer. The change will make KMSCON the default for VT console while keeping FBCON compiled in the kernel as a fallback option. Users can revert to FBCON if needed, and the package will be split to separate OpenGL dependencies for non-graphical server installations.
