FIPS 140-3 is a mandatory security standard for federal and high-security environments. Ubuntu Pro provides FIPS 140-3 certified cryptographic modules (OpenSSL, Libgcrypt, GnuTLS, Linux kernel, StrongSwan) for Ubuntu 22.04 LTS across x86_64, ARM64, and IBM z15 platforms. Enabling FIPS requires an Ubuntu Pro subscription and involves attaching a token, enabling fips-updates, and rebooting. Pre-configured FIPS images are available on AWS, Azure, and GCP marketplaces. Hardened Ubuntu containers are certified in DoD Iron Bank, and Canonical Kubernetes now includes FIPS and DISA-STIG compliance. Common issues include WiFi SSID length requirements, 32-bit library conflicts, and full-disk encryption configuration with PBKDF2.
