Every Developer Should Try Self-Hosting

<p>When I went from a Corp that was 100% cloud based to one that is almost 100% on-prem, I gained so much more knowledge covering the gaps I had. Highly recommend trying self-hosted, and after reading a few articles of how much cheaper it actually is for Corps to go back to on-prem I would not be surprised if more companies go back to on-prem.</p>


<p>As I changed a position in company in 2025 I just get more in touch with devops stuff. And from that time everything changes, from just writer of the code with some very basic knowledge of networking and linux I switched to homelab enthusiast. I just connected my small old raspberry pi to the network first time. I have to figure out how to make my web page publicly available if you have public but non-static IP address. Then some SSH and port forwarding, security and so on … now I have my more capable mini PC running Proxmox VM and Docker containers, I turned my ISP’s router to bridge and buy my own Unifi Express 7 and switch to build virtual networks… I learned so much last couple of months and it is like fresh air. After years of just coding, in era of AI when code is more less generated this passion feel very real and I am happy I started this homelabing journey.</p>
