Researchers from Fudan University and the Shanghai Artificial Intelligence Laboratory have developed the MCT Self-Refine (MCTSr) algorithm to enhance mathematical reasoning in large language models (LLMs) by integrating Monte Carlo Tree Search (MCTS). This approach leverages MCTS's systematic exploration with LLMs' self-refinement to improve decision-making, particularly in solving complex math problems. Experimental evaluations show substantial improvements in problem-solving success rates across various mathematical benchmarks. While effective, the performance of MCTSr plateaus on more complex datasets, indicating areas for further optimization and exploration in its broader applications.
