AMD has released Smoldr, an open-source command-line tool that lets developers run DirectX 12 HLSL shaders using simple text scripts — no C++ required. Similar to Google's Amber for Vulkan, Smoldr handles shader compilation via DXIL, pipeline creation, resource management, and compute or raytracing dispatches. It supports the Microsoft Agility SDK for experimental HLSL features and integrates with AMD Radeon GPU Profiler. The tool is work-in-progress with plans to add mesh shader support next.
