These features, which include Automatic Table Optimization, Automatic Table Sorting, Auto Vacuum, and Auto Analyze, now take into account query patterns across all consumer clusters for improved table layout management and maintenance operations.
A key addition is the denylist feature, providing administrators the flexibility to exclude specific endpoints or AWS accounts from these autonomous optimization processes. This ensures that certain workloads can be exempt from automatic changes if needed, offering greater control over the optimization environment.
In addition to these upgrades, Redshift now allows database administrators to allocate extra compute resources specifically for these autonomic functions. This advancement ensures that automatic optimizations can run concurrently during high-activity periods without interrupting user workloads. Cost controls have also been put in place to manage expenses related to these provisioned clusters.
Moreover, the introduction of a new <code>SYS_AUTOMATIC_OPTIMIZATION</code> system table offers enhanced observability, allowing administrators to better track and manage the automatic optimization processes.
These developments are available at no extra cost and are accessible in all AWS Regions where Redshift is supported, thereby eliminating the need for manual performance tuning across distributed workloads while ensuring efficient and effective resource utilization.
