Tesla is restarting development of Dojo3, its previously abandoned third-generation AI chip, but with a new focus on space-based AI compute rather than autonomous driving. The announcement comes five months after Tesla disbanded the Dojo team and shifted to relying on Nvidia and AMD. Musk positions the project as part of a broader vision to deploy AI data centers in orbit using SpaceX's Starship, leveraging constant solar power availability. The company is actively recruiting chip engineers while continuing its AI5 and AI6 chip roadmaps for terrestrial applications in vehicles and humanoid robots.
