Starbase, SpaceX's company town in South Texas, is establishing its own municipal police department with up to eight officers. The city commission approved the ordinance pending state approval, with the department expected to be operational within months. This follows a failed $3.5 million contract with Cameron County sheriff's office for law enforcement services. The new department will protect SpaceX assets and serve the few hundred residents, mostly SpaceX employees, in this geographically isolated location about 10 miles from Brownsville.
