JAE Electronics has developed a screwable, non-soldered USB-C connector designed to satisfy the EU's Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR). Instead of being soldered to a PCB, the connector clamps down with small screws, using gold-plated contacts pressed into PCB pads. It supports USB 4 v2.0 and USB PD EPR up to 240W (5A/48V), and comes in single and dual versions. The tradeoff is a larger footprint compared to standard soldered connectors. Parts are expected to arrive at Mouser in coming months.
