I do think there is merit in including PHP. As easy as it is to bash and as many people want to hate it, it is pretty clean and very beginner friendly, where it also happens to be the backend for something like 70%+ of active websites.
One does not need to dedicate their career to web development, or even PHP, but still can benefit greatly by learning from it.
